A Notion Story: When the Pets Control the Thermostat

A Notion Story: When the Pets Control the Thermostat

There's tons of ways to use Notion to protect you home, your family and your pets.

One of our customers, Chris, has been using Notion for a few years to keep an eye on the temperature in their home, especially when they’re out of town. Why temperature specifically? Chris has five of the cutest chinchillas around, and turns out these furry animals are very sensitive to temperature.

  • Chinchillas are native to the Andes of South America, a cool and dry region where the temperature is pretty constant between 50°F and 55°F.
  • Chinchillas don’t tolerate heat or humidity well and become extremely stressed by temperatures higher than 80°F.
  • The ideal temperature for a chinchilla is 60°F to 70°F with a humidity level of 40% to 60%

Here's what Chris said about his Notion system:

"Twice since first getting Notion some years ago, Notion alerted us to an HVAC failure with its temperature threshold alarms. In both situations, once with us on the other side of the country, we were able to get someone home to move our temperature-sensitive pets to a safe location and have the system repaired very quickly. It saved the lives of our pets, and lets us rest easy while away from home!"
